Pangai, Ha’apai – A powerful wave of confidence, courage and change is sweeping through the classrooms of Sangato Sofefo College and Tailulu College as the Women and Children Crisis Centre (WCCC) delivers its dynamic Anti-Bullying & Anti-Violence Program – and students are rising to the challenge!
Led by WCCC’s inspiring Youth Advocate and team, the sessions sparked real talk with students about the serious impacts of bullying – from anxiety and stress to long-term mental health struggles. But more than just awareness, this program is about action. Students learned how to spot the signs, speak up and support each other to create schools where everyone feels safe, seen, and supported.
What makes this program different?
It’s bold, real and made for young people. Through honest discussions, fun activities and relatable stories, students are equipped with practical tools to deal with bullying – whether they’re experiencing it, witnessing it, or want to help a friend.
“We want students in Ha’apai and beyond to know: you matter. Your voice matters. And you have the power to create change,” said the WCCC Child and Youth Advocate Lead Sulieti Tau’ataina. “No one should feel invisible or afraid at school. Together, we can build a culture of kindness, strength and respect.”
The program is part of WCCC’s wider mission to empower youth across Tonga to understand their rights, know their worth, and rise up against all forms of violence.
